Jose "Perico" Hernandez

Jose Caridad Hernandez, better known as “Perico”, is a sonero/percussionist/composer/songwriter who creates “organic cuban music.” His musical experience in Cuba with Conjunto Casino prepared him well for his career in the United States. He was musical director, composer and sonero on the two Caravana Cubana albums. His composition “Romanza Guijara” from the Caravana Cubana “Late Night Sessions” CD was considered for a Grammy in 2000. He has recorded/performed with various salsa and latin jazz artists, and his music has been used in film/TV soundtracks. Perico has produced two independent CD’s “Cuento en Clave” and “Rompiendo la Rutina” (Guarapo Records 2014). Perico appeared in the film Dance with Me with Chayanne, and more recently appears with Sofia Vergarra and Jon Favreau in Favreau’s film “Chef.” Perico has stated that “Music is my life, the clave and conga are my soul, and being a sonero of Cuban son comes from my heart.” (additional bio/discography: www.pericohernandez.com)
